Her Wisdom - Laura Turner

Meet Laura Turner, she’s an entrepreneur passionate about fashion, lifestyle and business and she brings all this together at her stylish boutique Hero in Stockbridge Winchester. Laura and I “met” through Twitter in our early days of blogging and I have enjoyed watching her take her knowledge and passion for all things beautiful from blog to a bricks and mortar business.

Not only does Laura and her team curate a beautiful section of clothes and accessories for their customers, Hero is also the base for workshops and conferences that bring people together to explore their passion, find a new talent or connect with mentors and leaders in the business and blogging fields. Laura certainly is a savvy business lady and totally devoted to her family, she is warm, genuine and full of support for others and I have definitely felt her cheering me on through my own blogging journey. I'm so thrilled to feature Laura in my Her Wisdom series and I hope you will be inspired by her as much as I am…

How do you begin your day? What are the first 3 things you have to do to get your day started?
At the moment I'm working on my miracle morning routine - I found that I was getting into really bad habits and checking my socials on my phone as soon as I woke up which had a knock on effect to the whole morning. So now, I wake up to a radio alarm and I get up straight away, have a cup of hot water and lemon. I have to eat too - usually eggs or porridge. A then an espresso and I check my task list for the day.

Share your favourite piece of wisdom and why it means something to you.
I believe in running your own race. Whatever you're doing or whoever you are. Don't worry about others or what they're doing, just do what is right for you and you'll succeed. Hard when it's so easy to compare yourself to others but I'm always telling my girls to do their best and don't worry about others. It means so much to me because it applies to every aspect of my life.

What is your go to thing for comfort when it all gets to much?
Sadly, it's tea and if it's really bad, my bed!

Who are the women that inspire you?
So many women inspire me. I meet people every week that I admire. Anyone who is on their own journey, who sets goals and is doing everything they can to achieve it. Women who aren't afraid to be themselves and be proud of it.

How do you see yourself and what makes up your sense of identity?
I see myself as a normal girl, wife, mummy and business owner. I am defined by my life as a whole. I feel incredibly proud of what I have achieved with Hero and also how I balance my family life. I went out to have both and although it's tough sometimes, I feel I have done what I set out to do.

Do you have a favourite dish or recipe that makes you feel good or gives you a much needed boost?
I love Madeline Shaw recipes - lots of ginger, fresh green veg and protein. They always leave me feeling great.

What does confidence mean to you, what helps builds yours up?
Confidence is a huge part of what I do and how I operate day to day. I need confidence to be the best I can be. Confidence breeds confidence too. If I'm feeling low - which usually happens when I feel I haven't achieved what I feel I could have - I list down the things I HAVE achieved in that day. When you do this you soon get some perspective when you look at what you have achieved rather than the endless list of what you still need to do!

What's challenging you right now?
I'm feeling really good right now. I'm planning ahead but not getting overwhelmed by the future and taking each day as it comes and making each day as good as it can be.

Tell us more about your latest or next project.
I'm working on a really exciting project at the moment called Big Small Business, it's for other business owners, dream chasers and creative entrepreneurs which includes our day long conference to meet fellow creatives and learn from those who have started their own business.
